„The Child and the Liberation from the Shadow of the terrible, big Fear“
a picture book for children, their parents and their supporters after war and flight
The Trauma Picture Book attempts to present a difficult topic in an understandable way: A child experiences an overwhelming fear situation due to war, and the “shadow of this fear” continues to follow the child even when the terrible situation has long become a distant past.
It can help children, parents, and their supporters to understand the life-restricting burden, which can be more or less obvious. It shows what the child needs now: practical help in everyday life, comforting messages from parents, and possibly the path to therapy.
The picture book originated from personal contact with refugee families and empathy for their fate. Therapists from several schools helped me with professional advice. Among others, the picture book was proofread by two trauma therapists from the Children for Tomorrow foundation at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf before publication.
As a family, you can read the Trauma Picture Book online, print it out, view it with your children, and use the coloring and crafting templates. You can also share it with your friends. Further instructions for parents can be found in the picture book.
Several usage instructions can be found in the appendix of the picture book and in the guides “Helping through Understanding” Parts 1 and 2. They are intended for educational work with the picture book. Additional questions about the Trauma Picture Book are answered in the FAQs.
